STI's / HIV
Is it true that male circumcision will reduce the chance of getting HIV? I know that whether this is true or not, a condom is needed. However, is adult/adolescent circumcision a good idea for this? Obviously, I am not circumcised.
It’s true that circumcision will reduce risk of HIV transmission (by up to 60%, and only if you’re topping).
However some studies have shown that condoms are 100% effective against HIV when used every time and correctly, so there is very little to be gained by taking this step if you’re using condoms anyway.
It can also take up to 6 months to heal after a circumcision, which means you’d be out of action for a while, and some people report a loss in sensitivity in their penis.
Condoms will also protect you from other STIs like syphilis and gonorrhoea, but circumcision won’t – so we’d recommend sticking with condoms.View ask a Sexpert
